Aspen
I flew to Aspen, Colorado hoping to catch some great autumnal colors over the last weekend in September. I was not disappointed.
My host, guide, and fellow photographer was my good friend Herb. (While his home is in Aspen, he and his wife Marsha are also part-time residents of Hawaii.) An accomplished real estate attorney, his favorite job when he was younger was driving a taxi. Now he's happy tooling around in his Porsche. Fortunately, the weekend I chose to visit was perfect top-down weather.
We started out with a walking tour of Aspen, which included a visit to two museums and the town's famed farmers market.
We didn't have to drive far to see vivid vistas everywhere.
I did my best to get some winding road shots with leading lines that pull you into the picture.
It's an extra bonus when I can get a bicylist in the frame.
While most of my shots were taken from the side of the road, occasionally we parked the Porsche and went on some gentle hikes to get closer to nature.
It's always enriching when you take the time to really see.
Each Aspen tree trunk has its own personality and story to tell.
The abandoned silver mining town of Ashcroft was a great place to stop and learn a bit of Colorado's history in the 1880s.
I loved the combination of weathered wood, rusted metal, and fall foliage at the Holden/Marolt Mining and Ranching Museum.
Reflections often make for compelling photographs. This one was taken from a moving car, as Herb slowed down enough for me to get the shot.
The contrast between light and shadow also added to the drama. Thanks for joining me on this colorful adventure.
